About Ramadan

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. [Qur’an 49:13]

The holy month of Ramadan is almost here; a time for spirituality, charity and solidarity. It is an opportunity for us to come together as a community, to show gratitude for our abundant blessings, and to show compassion for those who are less fortunate than us.

Welcome this blessed month by sparing a thought for the millions of people across the world who need our help; those who are suffering in the face of injustice, poverty, disaster or conflict.

Ramadan is an important month for Muslims around the world. It is a time when we are required to abstain from food and drink; a time for spiritual reflection and growth, and also a time for giving. It is a time to show compassion and to be one with those in need. Each year, during Ramadan, we distribute food packs to vulnerable people across the world to address food insecurity and ease some of the burdens they face.

Last Ramadan, with your help, Islamic Relief Australia was able to deliver 8,034 food packs to over 43,615 people in over 25 countries. Overall, the global Islamic Relief family was able to distribute 164,435 food packs in 33 countries, reaching over 908,660 people – delivering essential food supplies to families that regularly go hungry.
